Home from HomeSound It OutSound It Out create and run diverse participatory music programmes across Birmingham and the West Midlands. The Arch Musicians In Exile With ESF funding through the EQUAL Community Initiative, Sound It Out was the lead partner for Home from Home, a transnational music and film project. Working in partnership with organisations in four countries, Germany, Italy, Poland and the UK the project aimed to raise awareness about exiled musicians living in these countries, and to provide a positive message about the skills and talents they are bringing to their new countries. The participants of this project were exiled musicians from a diverse range of countries. Because of the restrictions of movement caused by their immigration status, it wasn’t possible to bring each group of people together, so we had to overcome these barriers through music and film. In each country, between 3 and 4 musicians were interviewed and their music was recorded to create a DVD featuring music from each group, as well as a final piece that interlinks the musical journey into one seamless piece. 5 minute clip from Home from Home DVD |
