HousingAsylum seekers are entitled to apply for accommodation in the UK on
a “no choice” basis, while their claims are being assessed. The
National Asylum Support Service tries to provide housing. Applicants
are obliged to remain at this address unless immigration authorities
give permission to move. Accommodation is run by local authorities, housing associations or private landlords. It could be hostels providing full board (usually allocated to single people), or self catering houses and flats (usually allocated to families). The accommodation provider is responsible for advising their resident asylum seekers on how to access services. This might include finding a G.P, accessing health care or getting their children into school. NASS West Midlands covers Birmingham. Refugees are entitled to the same social and economic rights as UK citizens. They have full access to housing.
