The duties of the office in brief cover the following:

• The assessment and decision making process on the new asylum claims.
• The assessment and issue of asylum support (upon application) to all eligible asylum seekers under section 95 of the Asylum Support Act 2000 (as amended 2005).
• The maintenance of such allocated asylum support.
• The enforcement of the regulations in respect of breaches of conditions of said support, on behalf of the secretary of state for the Home Office.
